
Ana Novo Barros, Assoc. Prof.
Ana Novo Barros is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Portugal, and an integrated member of the Centre for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences (CITAB).
Her research focuses on the valorisation of agri-food by-products, particularly the extraction, characterisation and application of bioactive compounds, with an emphasis on sustainability, circular bioeconomy and functional innovation. She has extensive experience in the development of value-added products for food, cosmetic and health-related applications, integrating chemical, biological and technological approaches.
Ana Novo Barros is actively involved in several national and international research projects and currently coordinates the European project WASTELESS, focused on food loss and waste quantification and reduction. She has significant experience in supervising postgraduate and doctoral students and in leading multidisciplinary research teams.
